Hospice House

About Hospice House…

Hospice House is a 10 bed residential hospice located in Fredericton which provides 24 hour care to palliative patients and their families. Care is offered by a specialized team of nurses, support staff and physicians in a home-like, caring environment. Through physician referral, admission to Hospice House is on a voluntary basis and patients can be admitted directly from home or transferred from hospital.

Hospice House Admission Criteria:

Residential Hospice is available to individuals with a life expectancy of three months or less, and/or are clinically assessed as being end-of-life using validated tools.
Eligibility requirements are that the individual:

  • Has a valid New Brunswick Medicare Card or is in the process of obtaining a Medicare Card.
  • Is aware of the diagnosis and prognosis
  • Agrees to receive end-of-life care and symptom management in the Residential Hospice
  • Has a Do Not Resuscitate Order in place.
  • Informal and/or formal supports can no longer sustain the patient’s needs in the home environment.
  • Has a Palliative Performance Scale of 50% or less or increased burden of disease.
  • Has limited diagnostic tests or treatments required.
  • Has assessed care needs that can be safely and adequately met in the residential hospice environment.

Rentable Rooms

Hospice House also provides rentable rooms for families who find travel difficult during this time.
