Hospice Fredericton Relaunches Visiting Volunteers Program to Support Patients and Families in the Community
Fredericton, February 11, 2025—Hospice Fredericton is proud to announce the relaunch of its Visiting Volunteers Program, an initiative designed to bring compassionate support to individuals with terminal illnesses in the comfort of their own homes. This program aims to provide patients and families with companionship, emotional support, and legacy-building activities that help bring comfort and connection during a profoundly challenging time.
“For many facing terminal illness, isolation and the need for connection are profound challenges,” said Alison Lynch Richard, Director of Psychosocial Services at Hospice Fredericton. “Our dedicated Visiting Volunteers bring comfort and companionship into the home, easing loneliness and providing families with compassionate support when and where they need it most.”
Key Features of the Visiting Volunteers Program
- Companionship: Volunteers engage in meaningful activities with clients, from conversation to reading and other comforting activities.
- Emotional Support: The program provides an empathetic presence for clients and families as they navigate the complexities of end-of-life care.
- Legacy Keepsakes: Volunteers assist clients with creating keepsakes, such as letters, scrapbooks, or photo albums, to preserve precious memories for their loved ones.
